In remotest North Macedonia, Hatidze’s closest confidantes are her bees. She serenades them with a secret chant, gathering their honey without netting or gloves. Aside from her bed-ridden mother, Hatidze’s only social contact is a visit to the local market to sell the rich, red wild honey.
Hatidze’s quiet, gentle life bursts into a flurry of noise when a farming family with seven children move next door. While she is initially thrilled to have new company, it soon becomes clear that their more modern - and less nature conscious - farming methods are threatening Hatidze’s livelihood.
Every frame of Honeyland pulses with the cycles of life and glows with Hatidze’s magical vitality and optimism
